What is GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)?
GEO — Generative Engine Optimization — is the practice of optimizing brand visibility in answers generated by AI engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews or Gemini. Where classic SEO aims to appear in the 10 blue links, GEO aims to be cited, paraphrased or recommended by an LLM in its synthetic answer.
Are SEO and GEO the same thing?
No. The technical foundations are shared (authority, structure, schema, content quality) but the levers differ: GEO weights claim-based structuring, entity freshness, multi-source semantic coverage and presence in training corpora more heavily. The two disciplines complement each other — a site invisible in SEO is rarely visible in GEO.
How to get cited in ChatGPT and Perplexity answers?
Five main levers: (1) rich and coherent schema.org structured data, (2) declarative content explicitly citing facts and entities, (3) strong topical authority on a specific subject, (4) coverage by third-party sources LLMs consider reliable (Wikipedia, established media, studies), (5) continuous monitoring of mentions on AI platforms to iterate.
How long before seeing SEO results?
For a healthy site, the first signals appear in 4 to 8 weeks (indexing, technical adjustments, first long-tail rankings). Consolidated results on competitive keywords take 4 to 9 months. For a new site or one recovering from a penalty, count 6 to 12 months minimum. SEO isn't an expense — it's an asset that compounds over time.
What kind of clients do you work with?
SMBs, scale-ups, e-commerce sites and enterprise accounts — very diverse industries. I work on freelance missions or long-term partnerships, mostly on technical issues (Core Web Vitals, migration, redesign), strategic ones (GEO, content strategy, link building) and measurement (dashboards, attribution, AI monitoring).
What's the difference between a freelance SEO consultant and an agency?
A senior freelance consultant: single point of contact, direct expertise, personalized method, lower operational costs. An agency: volume production capacity, multi-disciplinary teams, industrialized processes. For sharp topics like GEO or strategic audits, the senior freelance is generally more relevant. For high-volume content production, an agency is more relevant.
